I was young once. A teenager even. Though not every minute of the life that I lived during those times is still within my memory, sometimes, memories of times long past come into my consciousness. Nostalgia and a yearning for things past then creep into my present.

Always, my parents are a constant in my head. My late younger brother, Mann, too comes and goes with a frequency that belies the reality that we were never that close in real life...but he remains in my thoughts often. Memories of my dear wife, without fail, bring a smile and tears every time - and if truth was to be told, I am still in love with her today. That has made my life without her, bearable. And my two children and two granddaughters complete my life.

Those are the staples of my life. All the other memories, and all other things, are expandable, but every single one of them is the sum of my life today. And at 5.18 am on a Friday morning, in Melbourne, even though I am 6000 km away from the country I call home, I am content.

I am content because I have all that I need. Not all that I want, but I have all that I need to keep body and soul together. Not many people can say that of themselves and know in their hearts that they speak the truth, but I can because I am comfortable being who I am now and knowing, that in what is left of my own life now, it can only get better, not worse. All that I need to guard against are those human failings that many of us are afflicted with. Arrogance and greed.

What does the future hold for me?

More of the same. More contentment. More good memories and, hopefully, the continued absence of arrogance and greed. And maybe, if providence allows, to be able to do a few more things of life, and in life. Go back to KL, write more about what I would like to see happen back in Malaysia, continued decent health, and somehow, get a few of the things that I want in life....a Jaguar E Type, maybe. Yeah, maybe! Maybe not!
