Civil service revamp

MAP legal advisor Ramasamy’s Civil service revamp suggestion should be looked at realistically. The messenger must not be shot down/silenced

MAP legal advisor and Negeri Sembilan chief Karthigesan Shanmugam in a statement urged all parties and stakeholders to seriously evaluate what Prof Ramasamy is trying to say when he urged a fairer distribution to all races in the civil service.

“Naturally, what Prof Ramasamy is trying to articulate is the actual and real sentiment of the non- Malays including the Sabah and Sarawakians in the country”.

“In a multi-racial society, true unity could only be achieved when the civil service which is tasked with assisting the government of the day is well-balanced to enable good policies that represent all communities to be formulated. The current civil service setup is seriously lacking multi-culturalism. Prof Ramasamy’s statement must not be shot down just to please certain political thoughts, but must be evaluated realistically and appreciated. It is sad that a messenger like Prof Ramasamy is seen and painted as racist”.

“I find it strange that top politicians in the country very quickly shoot the messenger while ignoring the actual message” added Karthigesan.

In his article, Prof Ramasamy also quoted G25 spokesperson, Noor Farida Ariffin, who has made a similar call asking the civil service to be opened up for the non-Bumiputeras, particularly the non-Malays in the country.

“The issue of opening up the civil service to be representative of all communities is not something new and should not be seen as an untouchable subject. The good it would bring to a multi-racial country like Malaysia must be considered and the rakyat expect this to come from our PM who championed taking care of all races and a progressive society” stressed Kartigesan.
