I know what is important in life. And it is not politics.

A few years back, I lost a wife I dearly loved, to dementia. We had been married from the time I was 21 and she 23. We were together for fifty years. So I know what is important in life. And it is not politics.

There is family, and, if you have them, grandchildren. There are the people around you that makes life interesting and fulfilling. And there is life itself to be experienced and lived well.

For the more adventurous and the willing, there are the challenges of life, limited only by the choices you make for yourself. Live life well. At 75, I know what matters in life today. It is family, not politics.

How then, at 2.49 am on a Saturday morning, I have lain awake for the past one-hour thinking about the messages, comments, emails and news that has been sent to me via my emails, WhatsApp, Telegram and the other social media apps I have ….none of them about family…..but all about politics as it is happening in Malaysia today?

And that has been our staple diet…politics…from the time Tun Mahathir stepped down as PM in October 2003. When Tun was PM we left politics to Tun and BN, but not anymore. Today, anyone with a computer is a political commentator. Today, everyone has an opinion on politics. Today, politics is a 24/7 presence that invades our lives incessantly.

We now have a generation totally dictated by politics from cradle to grave. Politics. Politics. Politics. …and even at this hour of the morning…..my thoughts are consumed with politics.

And familiarity breeds contempt. How true, for I hold most politicians in contempt for the things they do as politicians.

I do not know how things will be a decade from now. In truth, I doubt if that is long enough for family to come back to be the most important part of our lives. Many things have to change and be better for that to happen.

For now, we need to focus on thinking of how we can make family the most important part of our life again. Family not politics. Friends not politics. And we need to be able to live life well, not do politics 24/7 as we are doing it now.

Think about that, guys.

Let us bring structure, order and sanity back into our lives and let us leave politics in the hands of politicians. Not corrupt, greedy and arrogant people who happen to be politicians. Not in the hands of the Umno Court Cluster, not in the hands of the Convicted Felon and others of his genre.

We want to leave politics to the politicians we shall elect at PRU 15 who are in our image, who knows of our aspirations and of our desire for a better Malaysia for all, and to politicians who will serve us, not themselves. The process of change begins with you and me. Start today.
