In Democracy...do we or do we not tolerate dissent?

Above are the exchange of messages I had with Lawrence after he sent me Murray Hunter's "A clear and present danger to Malaysian democracy" article snapshot.

Is it not true that it is because we are a democracy that the Green Tidal Wave of PAS is upon us even now? We fear them because we do not really know or understand their fervor and commitment to Islam, or is it because we know that in their somewhat twisted mind, they fervently believe that Islam preaches that the infidels and Christians are their worst enemies?

Democracy invites, nay, it tolerates dissenting views. That is the strength of democracy. That is the appeal of democracy....and sometimes, that is what destroys democracy.

The passage of the right to vote for 18-year-olds and the revocation of the 'false news' ordinance did cause PH much grief in PRU15. The 18-year-olds choose to overwhelmingly vote for PAS. The revocation of the false news Ordinance flooded the Net with ...what else....FALSE NEWS! False news that has confused and certainly persuaded many voters to cast their votes whichever which way the cyber troopers are able to 'persuade' them to vote....and it goes without saying that those with the cash to pay these cyber troopers are the beneficiary of this false news.

Be as it may, should not Sosma be at least reviewed by Saifuddin to celebrate the coming of this PH-led Unity government? After all, are we not already breaking the dawn of a refreshing new era where civil liberties and human rights should be the cause célèbre of this DSAI-led PH Unity Government? ?

Methinks it’s best to keep Sosma, for now, to address any acts of insurrection and rebellions that are sure to come as the Green Tidal wave, led by rogue politicians, sweeps across our nation. Sosma is less draconian than ISA. Rogue politicians and their minders are a lot that can’t be trusted to keep peace and harmony in check.

In fact, many civilized western countries are making such laws to deter and protect their rakyat from internal strive and upheavals that can lead to acts of terrorism...terrorism that no one can predict as to when and where it can happen. If it can happen in the US, it can happen anywhere, especially in the Malaysia that we now know.

The passage of 18 rights to vote and the revocation of the 'false news' ordinance did cause PH much grief during the recent PRU15. Yes...maybe they should keep Sosma.....for maybe...there is such a thing as too much freedom in a country, and among rakyats, who are not quite ready for "freedom".
