How did Najib, the son of a Prime Minister and a Prime Minister himself, end up in Jail? Yes, he was manifestly corrupt to the core. Greed and an insatiable wife with delusion of grandeur and power did not help. And with 'friends' like Jho Low, his path towards Armageddon was sealed.

Look around you today, and you will see many other individuals of his ilk wandering in the corridors of power with impunity. The conviction and incarceration of Najib Razak happened because someone in a political position of authority decided that Najib was to be targeted, trialed, and convicted for his "crimes". Everything else - the judicial process, the evidence, the prosecution, and the eventual jailing of Najib was a fait accompli. Was it an ethical intervention to ensure justice is served, or a political intervention to serve vested political interests? You decide!

If truth is to be told, the right or wrong of high profile, entitled political people accused of crimes - civil and criminal - are too often, in our nation, at the mercy of anything, but judicial. Political rather than ethical considerations will drive the narrative that will decide the fate of the accused.

This was the situation with Anwar Ibrahim when he was removed as DPM and Finance Minster, put on trial, convicted, jailed, and finally pardoned decades later. Political masters were the decision-makers, not the Judiciary. This is certainly the case with Zahid Hamidi. In both situations and in many other situations where high-profile politicians are on trial, raw political power was used to get a verdict that would serve the vested interests of those in government - subverting the justice system for political gain. Why is DSAI hesitating? Why is DSAI conflicted? There is no need to mount an absurd defense and give absurd reasons to justify dropping all 47 charges for corruption and abuse of power against his deputy, Zahid Hamidi. It is already done. Zahid Hamidi has got his DNAA. Done deal!

DSAI should now consider using the same method to contain Hadi, Mahiaddin and Mahathir, and anybody else that stands in the way of this Unity Government. Let history judge the right and wrong of subverting the justice system for political gain. Enough said.
