To Err is Human. To Forgive Divine.

Today, Najib Razak have no control over his day-to-day life. He cannot decide when he will wake up, what he eats, or when, and where he can go anywhere. Everything is decided for him. DSAI knows the feeling. Rosmah, Muhyiddin, Muhyiddin son-in-law, and the others who will soon be charged or have charges pending are fully aware that the same fate awaits them once due process has been accorded to them. You can be assured that just the thought of ending up in jail is enough to scare the shit out of anyone - what more Rosmah and Muhyiddin.

There are many others who are in the same boat as Rosmah and Muhyiddin. Too many if you ask me. Yes, they were corrupt. Yes, they scammed, cheated, lied, and stole money that did not belong to them. The money belonged to the rakyat - to you and me. Why have so many become thieves and scoundrels? Why has greed overcome all other sensibilities?

Two reasons: Mahathir and Najib.

These two, more than anyone else are the reason our nation and our people are the way we are today. The manner in which they did government made corruption a way of life for many Malaysian - politicians, businessmen, government servants: and anyone else who wanted to be part of this great greedy corrupt enterprise were warmly welcomed and embraced as family by those already involved in that enterprise. Corruption became a way of life. Corruption became a culture. Some were more greedy than others. Some are more enterprising than others. All complicit. All guilty. All of them laughing all the way to the bank.

Just as it took a whole village to raise a child to be a responsible adult, it took a whole nation to make Malaysia as corrupt as we are now. We are all complicit in the enterprise one way or another, and we must bear some guilt in making it possible. - even if all we did was to be quiet!

And none more greedy, more corrupt, and more guilty than these two:

When corruption becomes a way of life. When it becomes a culture that is accepted and practiced by many Malaysians from all walks of life - from the prime minister down - surely you cannot prosecute all of them? Who do you choose to prosecute and why? Is Najib and Rosmah any more guilty than the DBKL enforcement officers and mata mata who asks for bribes? You cannot be a bit pregnant, kan? They are all guilty ....so how do we move forward and leave our sordid past behind?

How many of you dare to think that a better life is possible for you in Malaysia? Or are you accepting of your lot? You do the best you can under present conditions. You do not think of the future...life is just trying to survive from day to day. Get through today. Nothing else matters.

Maybe it is time we think about another way of doing things...forgiveness and reconciliation. Maybe not.

What is needed so that the healing process can start in our nation?

No one can deny that we are today a nation wrecked asunder by politics, religion, and race. Throw into that mix an education system that leaves much to be desired. There is a growing disparity between the haves and have-nots, resulting in despair and a feeling of helplessness among our people. There is a lack of hope. This is the ingredient that is required to allow our nation and our people to dare think that the future may be better for them.

Maybe we must first forgive our own people for the wrong that they have done. It is simply impossible to punish every one of them. We must restore harmony and friendship among our own people. Every one of us has suffered psychological and material harm because of the corruption and abuse of government by our leaders. All. We must settle and resolve our differences, and restore peace and harmony among ethnic, religious, and political communities and our people. Mutual hostility must stop. Any sense of injustice and desire for vengeance must be provided with outlets. And the success and failure of these attempts at reconciliation will depend on DSAI.

How this reconciliation is to be achieved is for others to tell. Maybe there is another Mandela among us. Maybe not.

I think our PMX understands this. I think he is working hard at achieving reconciliation. This unity government is an attempt at reconciliation. A reconciliation that must be done if we are to move forward and bring all Malaysians with us towards a future of one Malaysia. At the very least, we must allow DSAI to try.
