Will this Madani government be more Islamic than PAS?

If the results of GE15 and the recent State elections are to be believed and taken to heart, one thing is kosher. The majority of Malays have deserted UMNO and the Unity Government. This trend, to all intents and purposes, continues unabated, overtly and covertly. The calls by PN to heed the demands of their flock to make Malaysia more Islamic grows more strident by the day. What PAS is, today, reminds me of those days when UMNO swept all before them and governed recklessly with a two-thirds majority in parliament. That was a time when what UMNO wants, UMNO gets.

How will this Madani government under PMX deal with this reality?

What will DSAI and this Madani government do in the face of a surging Green Wave? Will they do what UMNO did when faced with a PAS Green Wave decades ago?

What did UMNO do then?

They "invited" Anwar Ibrahim into their embrace and proceeded to make UMNO more Islamic than PAS. UMNO succeeded in both ventures beyond their expectations. Today Anwar is prime minister and Jakim has a budget of billions to make Malaysians more Islamic than PAS.... but UMNO has withered away while PAS has not.

Today, as far as the Malays are concerned, PAS is now UMNO - or to be more exact - the Malays are now looking at PAS to do what UMNO should have done....take care of the Malays and Islam. Once the Malay majority gets it into their heads that PAS is their savior, it is not a matter of "IF" but "WHEN", the Malays will vote PAS into government.

How will DSAI manage the situation?

The same way that UMNO handled PAS decades ago?

Will DSAI make his Madani government more Islamic than PAS? Was that conversion of that Hindu lad into Islam a precursor of things to come? Are the proposed teachings of the Imam Al-Nawawi 40 hadiths (aka turning government schools into little Madrasahs) part of the deal? And this Madani government....how Islamic will Madani be?

Now every Friday is an occasion for DSAI to say his prayers at a different mosque...for what purpose? The occasion of his Friday prayers is an occasion for politicking the Islamic way. Is Malaysia becoming more Islamic by the day under this Unity government of DSAI?

Maybe this is only me ranting away at what I see happening in Malaysia today. What is wrong about being more Islamic if that is what the Malay majority wants Malaysia to be? Who can DSAI invite from PAS to cross over to PKR's side? Hadi Awang seems to be the most obvious choice...does the prospect of having Hadi Awang in the Madani government spook anybody? Hadi as the third DPM?

This is just me thinking about the state of our nation today at 4.32 a.m. on a Tuesday morning in Fitzroy, Melbourne....6000kms away from KL. In the quiet of the morning, I let my thoughts wander where they will, unconstrained by such things as politics and what these rantings would do to the unity and harmony of Malaysians. So please, bear that in mind when you read what I write.

What we have to bear in mind is simply this maxim. What the Malay majority thinks matters to those who are in government. It matters to the others who are not Malays and to those who are not Muslims. We have seen what has happened to UMNO after decades of trying to be more Islamic than PAS - UMNO failed miserably because their purpose was to use Islam to achieve their political agenda to dominate Malaysia. As for DSAI who was "invited" into UMNO's embrace.....he has gone on to do better things......if winning GE15 and becoming PMX is a "better thing". The jury is still out on that one....but for DSAI, the situation he now finds himself in is Groundhog Day all over again.

"Groundhog" Day: a situation in which the same, usually negative or monotonous experiences, occur repeatedly or are felt to occur repeatedly with no change or correction.

What will PMX do to manage the Green Wave that is now threatening to sweep anything that is their way in their march towards Putrajaya? The next general election is still years away, and DSAI has more than time to manage the impending political demise of his Unity Government. He also has the goodwill and the support of Malaysians who have seen what that once great UMNO...the champion of the Malays and Islam....had become when they did the wrong thing to combat the Green Wave that PAS threatened to unleash upon them decades ago. Hopefully what happened then are lessons learned for DSAI and this Madani government. Enough said.
