Will UMNO survive corruption? Expectations and Realities.

There is nothing extraordinary about what is happening in Malaysia today. Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia , Laos, Burma and many other nations have all gone through times of traumatic changes that have decided the future of their nation maybe for the next decade, maybe for ever. Their leaders helmed governments that puts their own and party interests before everything else - even the survival of their nation.

The history of our world is littered with leaders like Idi Amin, Gaddafi, Saddam Hussein, Mao Tse Tung, Assad, Emperor Bosakka, Suharto, Pol Pot, Hitler….all leaders who have committed horrible transgressions to their own nation on a scale simply impossible to comprehend. These horrendous things that men do to other men because they can, will continue to happen for as long as this world exists. And this is now happening in Malaysia today.

What about Singapore? Well what about Singapore? Would any of you want to live in Singapore? Do you have enough money to live in Singapore? Singapore is for those few who are able to afford living in an island city state that puts an impossible premium of things that most of us would probably not want to put up with. Singapore is a freak of urbanisation - some say a utopian freak. Sustainable yes, but it moves towards a utopian of impossible expectations that will ultimately make it inaccessible except for the very few. Like a gated community - you are safe, you are comfortable but the costs of sustaining that community is horrendous and impossible to sustain indefinitely.

So back to the first question that I asked. Will Umno survive corruption?

That will depend on the time frame you would want Umno to survive. If you are past 60, for as long as Umno can survive the next decade, you would be comfortable with it because that would constitute whatever life time is left for you. When you are past 60, Umno will be around for the rest of your life and provide for your needs. And since these over 60's are the people that now matters in Umno, they are the ones that has a say in these matters.

What are the expectations of these people that now matters in Umno? They want Umno to win PRU 15 and become the government of the day. Possible? For sure it is. Win PRU15 and all will be well for them.

To win PRU15, Cash has to remain as King. No worries. Can be done , is being done and all that is being spent to make Cash as their King can be recoup after PRU15. What are the other expectations of these leaders? Uncluster the Umno Court Cluster. Being done. Get a pardon for Kepit Man once PRU15 is in the bag. Done deal. And the appointment of these leaders in cabinet, GLCs and all the other places where they can merrily keep on making money the way they have been doing all this while? Yes of course it is possible. So all their expectation can be met.

The reality?

We will have a PM, a cabinet and a government that must serve Umno. Not Malaysia and certainly not Malaysians but serve Umno!. The business of government is perpetuating the Cash is King mentality and reality that has driven Umno all this while. After this decade these leaders and corrupt politicians will then start to retire, become senile or die.

And then what?

If by that time Umno’s current leaders have done their work, then Umno will remain in power for time immemorial. For by then the Malay Malaysia will be in place and the Malaysian Malaysia will be no more. So guys if you think the times that we are now living in is Malay, Islamic and Umno centric, you haven’t seen nothing yet!

But for those Malays who expect to live longer than a decade - Umno is not the place to put all your eggs into. The question you need to ask yourself is, would you want to be with an Umno that needs a Malay Malaysia to survive now and for the future? Or do you want to have a Malaysian Malaysia so that in time, when all this madness of corruption and Cash is King has been relegated to where it deserves to be relegated…locked away in a vault and the keys thrown away forever….then our nation would have had its mad moment in history and the future that we all want for all of us. can then start to become a reality.

I am 75 this year. I hope common sense will allow me to make the right decision for myself. Umno will win PRU15. Umno will be in government for at least the foreseeable future…..a future through which I hope to live through. I will chart my own ‘druthers’ as we head towards PRU15 in early 2022.
